Installing an EA: a practical checklist
A careful installation starts with the correct platform and a demo account. This guide explains the workflow; follow the supplied product manual for exact requirements.
1. Confirm what you downloaded
MT4 expert advisors use .ex4 files; MT5 uses .ex5 files. Renaming an extension does not convert a program between platforms. Extract the purchased ZIP into a folder you can inspect. Keep the directory structure and supporting filenames intact. The Garuda Precision MT4 package includes an expert advisor, indicator, library and PDF guides. Garuda Sentinel MT5 includes an expert advisor and supporting indicator.
2. Locate the terminal's data folder
Open the installed desktop terminal and use File → Open Data Folder. Use that terminal's data folder rather than guessing a directory from its installation path. With multiple terminals, confirm you are copying into the terminal you intend to use. Under MQL4 or MQL5, expert advisors belong in Experts and custom indicators in Indicators. Place supplied libraries in the corresponding Libraries folder only as instructed by the product guide.
3. Preserve dependencies
Do not rename supporting indicators or libraries unless the developer confirms the program supports the change. An EA may look for a dependency by its original filename. Keep manuals outside the program folders where you can read them. Restart the terminal or refresh the Navigator after copying files, and check that the EA is listed under Expert Advisors.
4. Configure on demo first
Confirm the symbol, timeframe and input settings with support before attaching the EA to a chart. Read its permissions and inputs. Enable automated trading only when you understand the configuration. A DLL can run native code on your computer: enable DLL imports only for a trusted package when its instructions require them. Do not enable permissions simply to dismiss an unexplained error.
5. Diagnose before continuing
If the EA is missing, check platform, folder and file type. If it loads but does not behave as expected, review the Experts and Journal logs, dependency names and trading permissions. A quiet chart is not proof of a failure; a strategy may be waiting for its conditions. Send support the error message, platform build and a screenshot of relevant settings, with account identifiers redacted.
